Why iPhone videos don't play everywhere
With the default "High Efficiency" camera setting, iPhones record MOV files with HEVC (H.265) video. HEVC halves the file size, but Windows needs a paid extension to play it, many Android phones and smart TVs struggle with it, and lots of websites and editors reject it.
Vidverter re-encodes the video to H.264, the codec every device understands, and puts it in an MP4 file.
Change it on the iPhone for future videos
Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible makes the camera record H.264 from now on (files take more storage).
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert directly on my iPhone?
Yes. Open this page in Safari, tap the box and choose videos from your library. The conversion runs on the phone.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Vidverter runs entirely in your browser and uses your device's own video encoders. Files never leave your computer or phone, so it is safe for private recordings, and there is no upload or download wait.
Is the quality the same?
Vidverter uses a high quality setting. H.264 needs a higher bitrate than HEVC for the same quality, so the MP4 is usually larger than the original MOV.
